Things are a'Happening Again

These past few months have been mega crazy, but somewhere in all that we managed to do a few really awesome things!

We've become a part of Handmade Living! Handmade Living is a publication being compiled by the Handmade gals, to hit stores and stalls sometime by the end of the year. This was a super fun little project and we can't wait to see the finished product!

We also spent a week with Rebekah Griffiths of Material Pleasures, a fantastic recycled designer clothing dealer in Canberra's Fyshwick, painting up her new facade with some sexy hollyhocks and lawn.

Danielle Kathleen Jewellery also took a road trip to Wollongong for Queer Collaborations 2010, where we argued politics, met amazing people and networked. While there we stumbled across the most amazing store, Tee Gallery, who specialise in sourcing the most amazing and creative designs for t-shirts and hoodies from around the world. The brands that were stand-out amazing were Threadless and DesignByHumans. DesignByHumans is the coolest website ever, where the public can submit and vote on the most amazing designs and get them printed! Check them out! While there we networked with the lovely shop owner, and we may even be stocked by them! That'd be awesome, hey? : D

We also stopped at the cutest little shop in Moss Vale on the way home called Made by Others- it was like Etsy in real life! : D

Yesterday, in a collaborative effort with Mary Luckhurst of Sealegs Imagery, Jolina O'Hair, professional Make-Up Artist along with Sonia Russo, Leslie Henshaw, hair stylist, and the three sexy models- Britt Nichols, dressed by Mediocre Madness, Melissa Tan and Julia Price- Danielle Kathleen Jewellery had a crazy Steampunk Photoshoot! We had an amazing opportunity to get access to Leslie's salon, Bond Hair and Body of Kingston, and then we were allowed access to the Australian Railway Historical Society, Kingston, for location. This museum is the most amazing place, ever. Exploring the perfectly preserved trains amongst crazy, rusted old wrecks and clutter. It was like a sexy distopia, with our models poised for flight amongst the ruins. Check out a few of our most favourite shots-

And, through all this we've been designing! The new designs will be in a range of new colours and materials, including wood, coloured acrylics and movable designs! These are still a secret, though! So, shhhhh!

And, last but not least!
This weekend Danielle Kathleen Jewellery will be at Canberra's Fash 'n' Treasure, a huge fashion market located at the Old Bus Depot this Saturday, July 17th! It's running from 10.00 am until 3.00 pm and should be an amazing day for the fashion-forward ladies and lads out there!

We hope to see you all there, and looking at these amazing links! We love them, and so should you- xxx

Danielle Kathleen Jewellery on the Ponoko Stall- Maker Faire 2010

A few months ago the website that Danielle Kathleen Jewellery uses to manufacture our beautiful jewellery pieces, Ponoko, contacted us regarding some of our early designs, the "Sakura Hairpins".  Ponoko asked Danielle Kathleen to contribute two or three of the pieces to be shown at their Business stall at the 2010 Maker Faire! Maker Faire is an event created by Make Magazine to "celebrate arts, cratfs, engineering, science projects and the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) mindset." So, after quickly having some pieces manufactured, made and express posted to the US, Danielle Kathleen was there- in the US of A!

Check out these awesome images of the stall at Maker Faire

The stall!

Look at all these pretty items, made using Ponoko!

And, here are the beautiful "Sakura Hairpins"!

These are a few images of the laser cutting machine, in action.

To check out the full sequence of images check out this link!

And, to see the "Sakura Hairpins", just head on over to the Ponoko site!

Danielle Kathleen, Feelin' Warmer in Winter- After Handmade!

Whew! What an intense Saturday!

You can't entirely appreciate the hours of work and dedication it takes for a person to prep for and set up a market stall until you blithely walk into the middle of doing just that. Hours of making, tagging, pricing, displaying, rearranging, sewing and counting and crossing fingers later... and those two little tables are FINALLY ready to be seen by someone other than your mother!

A day like yesterday, however, makes it all worth it! So many repeated customers, new fans, friends, family, conversations were packed into a few short hours, and we couldn't help but have the time of our lives!

What was the most thrilling part was seeing the response to the new collections. I think it's pretty clear that Victorian Gothic and Steam Punk are the two BEST collections yet. The compliments were fantastically ego-building of course, but we took a secret delight in watching tiny personal collections come together in silence as our beautiful customers searched frantically through our wares. We've got quite a list of suggested designs, too! Owls, Jack Russells, Eifle Towers, MORE Sausage Dogs, Book Shelves, Thistle Garden photoshoots... These are where designs are born!

Now, however, Miss Danielle Kathleen and her WONDERFUL shop assistant (thanks Mum!) need to rest our feet and sleeeeep until September (when it all begins again). In the mean time, look out for some shiny new designs in Shop Handmade and keep an eye on Gorman House markets and our Etsy Online Shop! More designs are coming everyone's way!

Oh, and check out the Handmade Market blog! You might see yourself or your favourite shop among all the happy snaps of the day. It is so amazing to be surrounded by such a host of amazingly talented Canberran, local and some interstate designers! It was our first time at the markets and we felt completely welcomed by the lovely designers around us. Mega thanks to  Julie, Rachel, Tania, Jennie and eeeeveryone else that we saw from the Handmade crew!

Lots of love- Danielle Kathleen xxx

P.S. Thank you Tania for taking these beautiful photos!

We've been madly assembling for days now, and we're still only a third of the way through! These beautiful pieces are going to be available from June 5th, on either our Etsy online store, through the markets or from Shop Handmade.

We thought you all might like to see the progress, so here are a few shots of our concept board as it slowly fills up:

These eight necklaces are my favourite so far! They come in four colours- red, amber, clear and dark grey.

And look- earrings! We've assembled a couple of different sets to match the awesome pieces above. : )

Victorian Gothic Prototypes

OMG, just got back my prototypes of the newest "Victorian Gothic" designs! The lace collar looks FANTASTIC.

These pieces look amazingly delicate but are actually incredibly solid. The intricate design was achieved via looking at vintage lace pieces are the whorls and loops of the designs.

In this series we will have black pieces, white pieces, black and white layered pieces, red transparent pieces and transparent/etched pieces. We're also looking at coloured paints to bring the rainbow to the Danielle Kathleen aesthetic.

Hope you all like the prototypes!

xx, Danielle Kathleen

EDIT:

So, Shop Handmade told me something wonderful today- you guys are already popping in and asking about Victorian Gothic! This pretty much made my day. That said, these pieces are still in production - : (

BUT they'll be in Canberra in 2-4 weeks! Don't stress, they're coming sooooon.

Thanks so much for the love, my dear readers-
